Dawmouse Montessori Nursery

Miss Claire

Started at Dawmouse whilst doing her Montessori work placement before qualifying and joining the team in September 2016 after working as a Nanny for various families in Fulham. She started her education at a Montessori nursery in London, where the principles formed the foundations of her upbringing. She was educated in England before heading to Ireland to a cookery school. After seven years in the hospitality industry, the call to work with children became stronger, and Miss Claire made the decision to change professions. Caring for children has always been one of her passions, and the Montessori method of following your child and sculpting their education around their needs and interests resonates with her. She likes to make sure the children are having fun while learning in a safe, social and stimulating environment. After working at Dawmouse for six years, Miss Claire recently took over as the owner of Dawmouse, continuing our London nursery’s story into its fifth decade.

Miss Joanne

Is originally from South Korea and settled in London after getting married. After becoming a parent herself, she developed a passion for furthering children’s education and development. During that time, Miss Joanne was introduced to Montessori and realised that its method and core values are closely aligned with her own approach to teaching and caring for children; following children’s interests and guiding them to fulfill their desires and potential, while being independent in a well-prepared environment. Since then, Miss Joanne has been working with the children in various settings, enjoying building trusted relationships with them and their families. She always tries to be a good role-model to the children to instill positive traits that would stay with them throughout their lives.

Miss Maya

Miss Maya grew up London with her older sister and brother. She has always enjoyed working with children and wanted to be a teacher or chef ever since she was a child. She started her career as a teaching assistant, helping out at nurseries before deciding to study hospitality at Westminster Kingsway College. After working as a chef, she decided to return to teaching, finding it more rewarding, and studied at Montessori Centre International, achieving her Level 4 Montessori Diploma. Since graduating, she has worked at various nurseries in South West London, never looking back. Miss Maya’s favourite part of teaching is helping the children achieve their learning goals and watching them grow on their learning journeys.

Dawmouse Montessori Nursery School is term-time only and aims to provide a safe, child-led learning environment for children aged 2 to 5 years. We have three classes: Puffins, Hedgehogs and Otters. Each class has a Montessori teacher looking after a maximum of 9 children. We use vertical grouping to sort our classes, meaning that each class contains children of all ages. This gives the older children the responsibility of helping with the younger children, promoting confidence and independence as well as providing the younger children the chance to learn from the older children. Our day consists of two sessions, 9.00 – 1.00 and 1.00-3.30, with the option of flexible drop off from 8.30 and flexible pick up for the afternoon sessions. Children are advised to attend a minimum of four morning sessions to allow them time to settle in and establish a routine.
