Our approach

At Dawmouse Montessori, our approach to education is rooted in respect for each child as an individual. Every child is capable, curious, and eager to learn – each in their own unique way and at their own pace.

The prepared environment is important in Montessori. Each morning, our classrooms and outdoor spaces are thoughtfully set up according to the developmental needs and interests of the children, and depending on the weather! For example, the classroom might be set up outside if it’s warm sunny day!

The materials play a central role – be it exploring language, mathematics, or understanding the world around them, they learn by doing, in their own time, and in their own way.

Alongside this they develop other essential life skills such as concentration and focused attention, problem-solving, collaboration and discipline.

The mixed-age class further enriches their development, allowing younger children to learn from older peers, while older children grow a sense of leadership, responsibility and empathy.

We place a big emphasis on nurturing the whole child, in the broadest sense, at Dawmouse. Areas such as healthy eating, emotional wellbeing, manners, and celebrations are all woven into daily life at Dawmouse.

The best way to get to get a feel for our school and our approach to early years education is to come and see for yourself. Join an open day or get in touch to book a visit.
